Stereotyping is leading to terror, says first Muslim Miss England

The first Muslim to be crowned Miss England has warned that stereotyping members of her British Muslim community is leading some towards extremism.

Hammasa Kohistani made history last year when she was chosen to represent England in the Miss World pageant.

One year on, she said that attitudes towards Mislims in Britain has got worse, and that Muslims' attitude to British people has got worse.

In her words: "Even moderate Muslims are turning to terrorism to prove themselves. They think they might as well support it because they are stereotyped anyway."

Is she right?

  • Surprised that a question of this level had to be posed on this blog- i kinda thought it didn't need asking.

what a load of rubbish! Who is stereotyping Iraqis, sharm bombers?

Miss England better quit her salon politics and stop giving her shillin' worth of advice that she's borrowed from someone else.

  • Stereotyping Lebanese does not turn us into terrorits, smugglers, pimps...

Nothing "turns" you into a "terrorist"; some people have "fundamentalist"-type tendencies, and use religion as an excuse.

Christians have Tim McVeigh and consorts, the left had its Anarchists, Syrian and Arab nationalists have their share of suicide bombers. Recall the first in Lebanon were from "secular" PSNS...

All you need is a charismatic leader to give focus to the tendencies, and recruit the right people. It is true, however, that some modern interpretations of Islam makes it easier.
