Fucked Up


I was enjoying the sun and sea during my summer vacation when I was confronted by this horrific scene. The guy in the picture is clearly having fun, and he sees nothing wrong with covering up his wife in black on the fucking beach. Bizarre... Where was this picture taken? you might inquire? Saudi Arabia? Iran? No. It's in Egypt, where not so many years ago we used to take pride in being one of the most liberal countries in the Middle East.

    I don't know where this picture was taken but I lived in Eilat (on the Red Sea, north of Egypt). It can still be over 100 degrees F in October so being swathed in black at this time of the year, in full sun would be miserablle.

    She is at the beach. Who wants to be on the water in a black sheet. First of all it must be hot as Hades, (her husband isnt wearing a shirt) and there is not cover from the sun in the middle of the water. Finally what if that little dingy capsizes and she gets all tangled in that robe.

    Its plain cruel.

  • It's a matter of choice. Do YOU think she chose to wear a complete black covering on a scorching hot beach? Or do you think her husband makes her for relibious purposes? Even if she believes she should dress like this, that's social pressure and education that's at fault, you can make people believe that they should be ridden like horses and whipped like dogs if you teach them so from an early enough age.

  • Part of being a "liberal" country is giving one's people the freedom to choose what they want, instead of making petty excuses like "oh, someone's made them think they want it from an early age" simply because it's not the same as what you want for yourself.
